The 2016 vintage represents the quintessence of Barolo Vigna Rionda: an imposing and epic interpretation that embodies the classical power and noble austerity of this iconic cru.

While nature occasionally gifts us wines of immediate grace and charm, the 2016 vintage stands as a masterpiece of architecture and longevity: a sculpted, profound wine that reveals the authentic strength and vibrant structure of Serralunga’s great terroir.

It is the pure and majestic expression of Vigna Rionda, a wine to be carefully preserved in the cellar, destined to challenge the passing of decades.

Climate and growing season

  • A long and perfectly balanced cycle:
The climatic conditions of 2016 were close to ideal, characterized by a gradual spring onset that led to even flowering without excessive early development.
  • A consistent summer without extremes:
The summer months were marked by stability, with no excessive heat peaks, allowing balanced vegetative growth and maintaining the vine canopy in excellent health.
  • A textbook September:
The second half of summer and the entire month of September brought sunny days accompanied by exceptional diurnal temperature variations. These conditions allowed Nebbiolo to achieve a slow, steady and complete accumulation of polyphenols, reaching full ripeness through a long maturation period that continued until late October.

The wine profile and character in the glass

Vigna Rionda 2016 reveals itself with a presence and depth of rare magnificence:

  • Aromatics and olfactory complexity:
The bouquet is austere, dense and complex. The classic notes of violet and dried rose are accompanied by aromas of small black fruits, cinchona, tar, dark spices and a distinctive mineral and balsamic character that gradually unfolds in the glass.
  • Structure and palate:
On the palate, it reveals its majestic nature: the tannic structure is dense, incisive and finely sculpted.
