Here we are again at the end of a new year, at times stressful yet always exciting and fulfilling. With warm wishes we happily share our views on the 2023 vintage – from harvest to cellar work.
A challenging vintage
We say goodbye in the year’s last issue with an update on our 2023 harvest. While it was a tiring and complex autumn, we are thrilled with what is to come, knowing these wines will express the best of Massolino-style.
2023 was certainly not a boring year! We know that well-cultivated plants adapt to difficulties and again this year they surprised us.
From an agricultural standpoint, the year challenged us all, mainly due to weather and climatic trends. We went from a severe drought in early 2023 to the heavy late spring rains, also dealing with aggressive fungal attacks. Then repeat: drought conditions returned followed by more fungal attacks. The summer brought very hot periods before finally arriving at more regular autumn weather.
While we are still in the early stages in the cellar, we already feel great confidence. Enveloping aromas emanate from the freshly fermented wines and the first racking shows excellent colors. We remain optimistic that the wines will reach balance and grow into their own vintage identity, eagerly waiting to taste them as they mature in the coming months.
A very satisfying 2023
We end the year on a positive note, happy to have achieved great new goals despite the economic complexities affecting everyone the world over.
2023 was important for our company, above all because of the stabilization of the general economic situation which returned to being firm and continuous thanks to such enthusiasm at the end of the pandemic.
With pride we are increasingly aware of the high-esteem many enthusiasts hold in Massolino. Thanks to you our wines firmly hold high positions in many markets, both national and international.
The Massolino name is ever more synonymous with excellence, presenting itself as wines of reference for collectors and wine lovers all around the world!
Concluding 2023 one of the highlights for us – and based on sales, also you – was the return of our Barolo crus: Parafada, Margheria, and Parussi alongside our legendary Riserva Vigna Rionda. The 2019 vintage was indeed able to display great complexity and intensity, becoming an all-round star in the past 12 months.
Best wishes from Serralunga!
Our thoughts are already on the impending challenges of 2024. As always, our approach is aimed as excellence, as has defined Massolino family wines for generations. Expect more good things ahead!
Next year we release other exceptional vintages: 2020 for Barolo and 2021 for Barbaresco.
Round, pleasant, very expressive, the 2020 delights all palates, while the 2021 – more mature and classic – offers a great-aging Barbaresco.
Further excitement is coming, expected in the middle of 2024 is we the opening of our new accommodations.
Another challenging project for our family, but extremely exciting!
Our hills continue to experience great popularity, so we have been working hard to bring you a hospitality structure. Expected in mid-2024, we are excited to open our new accommodations. Be on the lookout for the big announcement – we can’t wait to welcome you!
Now some well-deserved rest awaits as we recharge before January! Best wishes to you and your family for a peaceful and happy Christmas.
May 2024 be a year of true peace for all!
