A Record Harvest and the Return of the Black Label

Dear Wine Lovers,
Time flies, and, almost swept up by the many commitments of everyday life, here we are once again in the middle of harvest!

We had planned to take a few days to relax in the second half of August and prepare ourselves properly, as we do almost every year. Instead, 2026 had an incredible surprise in store for us: on August 17th, we began harvesting the first bunches of Chardonnay. It is an absolute record for the Massolino family — it has never happened before!

It is truly an unusual vintage. The abundant rainfall of last autumn and winter fortunately replenished our underground water reserves, supporting our vines through a summer marked by very high temperatures and very little rainfall. In some cases, the occasional summer storms instead brought severe hailstorms. Fortunately, our vineyards were almost entirely spared, and for this we consider ourselves truly lucky. At the same time, we are deeply sorry for our fellow winegrowers who saw an entire year’s work destroyed in just a few minutes.

Climate change can no longer be ignored, and 2026 is clear evidence of this. Nevertheless, we remain optimistic because we have deep faith in our territory, in its ability to adapt to conditions that were once unimaginable, and in the great expertise of our team, always ready to give their very best to support the vineyards.

For the time being, the vintage is still looking very promising. Vines often know how to surprise us, and this year the signs are once again positive: we will probably have lower yields, but the coming weeks will tell us whether, once again, these hills will be able to work their magic…

September is also the time when our most precious wines, our MGA single-vineyard selections, make their debut. For Barbaresco, this will be Albesani 2023, while for Barolo, Margheria, Parafada and Parussi will all be released with the 2022 vintage. And, of course, there is Vigna Rionda Riserva, which will be the 2020 vintage and will wear the Black Label for the second time in our history.

We are proud to present you refined, precise and faithful interpretations of the identity of each terroir and vintage, shaped by the MASSOLINO style. We have worked hard and, if you allow us to say so, we are  proud of the results we have achieved!

Allow me to add a special note about the Vigna Rionda Riserva Black Label 2020, which captivates with its extraordinary class: a deep, focused and beautifully balanced palate, where the intensity of Serralunga’s terroir meets silky tannins and remarkable aromatic clarity. A true gem of purity, elegance and harmony, destined to make its mark.
Warmest regards to you all, and our very best wishes for a wonderful autumn!

Barolo MGA 2022 & Barbaresco MGA Albesani 2023

Every vintage tells a different story. Some years immediately receive the recognition of critics, while others are approached with greater caution. We have always chosen to rely on a single judgment: the one expressed by our vineyards, our experience, and the passing of time.

For this reason, our decisions are not guided by market expectations, but by the belief that every wine must faithfully represent the character of its own cru and reach the quality standards that have defined the Massolino name for over 130 years. When we believe that a wine is ready to authentically express its territory, we are proud to present it, regardless of any external factors.

The 2022 vintage gives us three Barolo wines of remarkable precision and balance, where energy, elegance and territorial identity coexist in perfect harmony. Margheria, Parafada and Parussi offer three different interpretations of the same vintage, united by expressive clarity, refined tannins and exceptional balance.

Alongside them, we are proud to introduce the new Barbaresco Albesani 2023, a wine that naturally interprets the charm of this historic MGA, standing out for its freshness, aromatic refinement and an immediate appeal, while preserving an important ageing potential.

Each new release represents, for us, a responsibility before being an achievement. It is the confirmation of our daily commitment to the territory, to our history, and to all those who, by choosing Massolino, place their trust in the consistency and authenticity of our work.

We invite you to discover these new vintages, the result of a harvest interpreted with rigor, sensitivity and profound respect for our land.

Una vendemmia da record e il ritorno dell’Etichetta Nera - Massolino Vigna Rionda

Barolo DOCG Vigna Rionda Riserva Black Label

Deeply connected to the identity of the Massolino family since its origins, Vigna Rionda has always been recognized as one of the most exclusive and legendary terroirs in the world of wine.
In 2022, with the iconic 2016 vintage, the Black Label project was born: a collection destined to continue exclusively with vintages of absolute excellence — such as the extraordinary 2020 vintage, arriving this autumn — capable of expressing the purest essence of Vigna Rionda through timeless wines.

Few producers have had the privilege of preserving and cultivating such a unique place, whose acquisitions by our family began back in 1956. Across the entire amphitheatre of this MGA, Massolino today owns the largest vineyard area — approximately 3 hectares out of the total 10.24 hectares — and for more than forty years has continuously vinified this extraordinary cru as a pure expression of Nebbiolo.

A historical continuity that we preserve with profound gratitude and respect for the work, dedication and vision of those who came before us.
These wines are born from the extraordinary union between an unrepeatable terroir and artisanal expertise refined through 130 years of family history, where rigor and precision meet the constant pursuit of balance.

All editions of our Riserva are capable of delivering profound emotions, but only the vintages destined for immortality can bear the Black Label: authentic works of enological art, whose value is truly beyond measure for us.
